Shoppa ("we", "our", or "the app") is a grocery shopping, price comparison, and loyalty card management application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Information We Collect
📷 Camera Access
- What we collect: We access your device camera to scan barcodes and QR codes on loyalty cards and products
- Why we collect it: To quickly add loyalty cards to your digital wallet and to look up product pricing information
- How it's stored: Scanned barcode data is stored locally on your device only
📍 Location Data
- What we collect: We access your device location when you search for nearby stores
- Why we collect it: To show you relevant store locations, distances, and localized pricing where available
- How it's stored: Location data is used in real-time only and is NOT stored or retained
💳 Loyalty Card Information
- What we collect: Card names, barcode numbers, and card images you manually enter or scan
- Why we collect it: To display your loyalty cards for use at checkout
- How it's stored: All loyalty card data is stored locally on your device only
🛍️ Pricing and Product Data Retrieval
- What happens: When you use Shoppa's price comparison features, the app retrieves publicly available pricing, product, and promotions information from retailer platforms on your behalf
- Why we do it: To display accurate, up-to-date prices and specials across multiple retailers so you can compare and make informed shopping decisions
- How it works: These requests are made directly from your device to retailer platforms, in the same way a normal browser request would be made, and contain no personally identifiable information
- Data retention: Retrieved pricing data is used in real-time to display results and is not linked to your identity or stored permanently
📊 Analytics
- What we collect: We use Firebase Analytics (provided by Google) to collect anonymous usage statistics, including the number of active users, session counts, and general device information (such as device model, operating system version, and country)
- What we DON'T collect: No advertising identifiers are collected
- How it's used: This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual users. It's used solely to improve the app experience and understand usage patterns

- Local Storage Only: All your personal data (loyalty cards, preferences) is stored exclusively on your device
- No Cloud Upload: We do NOT upload your personal data to any servers
- No Account Required: Shoppa does not require user accounts or registration
- Encryption: Sensitive data is encrypted using your device's secure storage
Third-Party Services
The app connects to external services to:
- Display product information and pricing
- Show store locations
- Retrieve current specials and promotions
- Look up product details by barcode
Important Note: When retrieving pricing and product data, requests are made from your device to publicly accessible retailer platforms on your behalf. These requests do not include any personally identifiable information — only general location context when searching for nearby stores.
The app uses Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data. For more information on how Google processes this data, see Google's Privacy Policy.
Data Sharing
We do NOT:
- Sell your data to third parties
- Share your personal information with advertisers
- Track your behavior for marketing purposes
Anonymous, aggregated usage statistics are collected via Firebase Analytics to help us improve the app. This data cannot identify individual users.

You have full control over your data:
- Delete your data: You can delete your data at any time by deleting individual loyalty cards or uninstalling the app
- Deny permissions: You can deny permissions for camera or location (some features will be limited)
- Offline access: You can use the app offline for viewing saved loyalty cards
Children's Privacy
Shoppa is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
